Vivo V15 Pro – First impressions on the pop-star

Vivo V15 Pro – First impressions on the pop-star - 4

Vivo V15 Pro, a phone that has been prized for its exemplary camera, is launched in India today. The much-awaited phone is launched at a price tag of INR 28,990 and comes as a successor to V 11 Pro. I’ve used this phone for a few days now and here’s my first impression –

Design & Display

The phone looks fancy and flawless – the gradient back, a 6.39 inch FHD+ super AMOLED display. The 19:5:9 FullView screen lights up real nice and makes up for a great video viewing experience. The screen has no notches whatsoever and comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor. While Vivo Nex already did the job quite well, V15 Pro makes up for what was missing, through its face detection. It is thin-ish weighing around 185 gms.

The back of the phone has AI triple camera – while I like the functionality, I’m not too happy with the protrusion as it is going to need careful handling.

Camera:

Vivo V15 Pro comes with triple AI cameras – 48 MP, 8 MP and 5 MP with 8MP lens dedicated to super wide angle pictures. The 32MP pop-up selfie camera is first-of-its-kind and impressive with a proven 6-year lifetime if you use it a hundred times a day. The pop-up camera, in fact, can withstand quite a lot of pressure as Vivo claims and is in fact quite sturdy. AI cam can be helpful with face alterations -thinning, whitening and everything else that you may need to feed our fantasies.

Using it for the first few days, I think the camera lives up to the hype and clicks some crisp, high-res shots,

Performance:

The phone comes loaded with Snapdragon 675 AI-powered engine and 6GB RAM– one the few phones in this price range to come with this. V15 Pro also uses Android 9 Pie out of the box. V15 Pro also has 128GB storage which you can expand to 256GB through external memory without compromising on your second sim – that’s a relief. Just as expected there are no lags and nothing special about the UI as well. We will have to wait and watch how it performs over the next couple of weeks while we put it to test.

Battery:

The phone ships with a 3,700 mAh battery – which although doesn’t sound great do fairly well give the display size. Compared to Nex that boasted a 4000 mAh battery, this sounds less on paper but Vivo claims that they have tweaked their optimization techniques. This with the dual engine fast charging should ensure better battery performance overall. My initial impression is that it lasts for a day with regular activities but how it holds up with data on, with recording HD videos while simultaneously doing other activities will be put to test while we take it out to Australia to test.

While it is too early for us to benchmark the phone, we will say this for sure – The phone looks impressive and performs well. What extent can we push the phone is something that will be answered in the next couple of weeks.
